During the time in which Mr. Pilates was developing Contrology, there were far fewer obese individuals in the population. Today we are given the challenge and the great opportunity to assist this population by teaching them Pilates. This workshop will teach participants how to apply Pilates Principles with great care to the physical and emotional needs of the students. Workshop attendees will consider anatomical issues like poor balance and proprioception, muscular misalignments and the issue of body landmarks. Additionally, you will learn how to establish safety and trust between you and the client. This workshop can be tailored for the Reformer, Chair, Cadillac and/or mat equipment.
Objectives:
- Learn how to communicate to the obese client with tact and compassion.
- Discover techniques how to help clients find their transverses and neutral spine while participating in Pilates exercises.
- Learn what exercises to emphasize and which should be avoided, how to modify movements and how to enhance them in order to help the obese client fully realize their own inner strength.
- Take traditional and modern Pilates exercises and tailor them to suit the physical needs of the obese client.
Modern Pilates Training Workshops are between 3-5 hours long; up to two workshops can be booked per day. Contact us here or call 504-615-3469 for further information or to book a workshop in your area.
